Despite our limited outside facilties, we have always offered a wide variety of sports at St. Michael's and are successful in range of competitions. Specialist sports coaches teach each class once every two weeks. They did run a popular before school sports childcare club called Early Sports and two after school extra-curricular clubs each week which covered a wide range of different sports, offered to all classes on a rota, but this had to be paused due to Covid and a lack of space in school now that Early Birds and Owls runs from the hall.
We have netball and rounders clubs which run on Tuesdays after school in the terms when there is sufficient daylight, but our dance club has also paused due to lack of space. School takes part in all the competitions run by the Heywood Schools Partnership on Mondays and Thursdays after school throughout the year. Teams are chosen for their abilities either through open try-outs or from observations during lessons by teachers and coaches, usually from the oldest applicable year group first for each competition.
